ABOUT OLD TRAFFORD

The home of the Red Devils was originally opened in 1910. Additional tiers of seating in the North East & North West corners, costing some £45m, make Old Trafford the largest League Ground in the country, by some margin. Both ends have large, two-tiered stands. Each has a large lower tier and smaller upper tier. The three-tiered North Stand at the side has the largest capacity of any League Ground stand in England. The redeveloped stand dwarfs the older single-tiered South Stand opposite. Development of this stand is difficult as a railway line runs directly behind it. All stands have executive boxes on the lower tier, giving a total capacity of 76,000. Unusual features include a raised pitch, with players entering from the corner of the South Stand. A statue of the legendary Sir Matt Busby fronts the impressive green-glassed façade of the East Stand, along with a clock and plaque in remembrance of the Munich Air Disaster.

If you are staying in one of the many Manchester United hotels why not make the most of your trip and take one of the daily stadium tours are available, including the Club Museum (except match days and days preceding European fixtures). There are a number of refreshment kiosks. These sell a range of Shire Foods pies and the usual range of stadium food including hot dogs, burgers and a variety of beverages. 3,000 away supporters can be accommodated in one corner of the ground, taking up part of the East and South stands. The view from the away sections is excellent.

GETTING TO OLD TRAFFORD

By Road

Old Trafford is on Sir Matt Busby Way, postcode M16 0RA. Online maps or the use of a GPS/sat nav are recommended. These will be useful in locating the ground and nearby Old Trafford hotels. There is also free secure parking at Ladywell Halt, Eccles, from where you can catch the Metrolink to Old Trafford.

By Public Transport

The best way to get to the stadium is by Metrolink or train from Manchester Piccadilly mainline station, as Old Trafford has both its own railway station next to the ground and a Metrolink station on Warwick Road, leading up to Sir Matt Busby Way. Once in the proximity of the ground, there are plenty of good-quality hotels near Old Trafford.
